Well the Super Bowl is over - which I am a-okay with. Once the Vikings are out, I lose most interest in the NFL season. It was a good game though but most of the goodness came in the last quarter. Up next is March Madness then baseball season starts!!! YES! I cannot wait!
Today I found out that I have a chance of being either the Junior High Boys Baseball coach or Girls Softball Coach coming up, which would be a lot of fun! I talked to the Athletic Director at D-E and he told me they normally don't get too many applicants for those positions and the fact that the students already know who I am would be a huge positive towards me getting the position. The only problem though is if I did get it, the season would go through when I'll be in Florida and I don't know if that would stop me from having the position. We'll see though - I'd love to coach. I will make you all come to a game and watch! (You all as in V, Andy, Lauren, Ken (If you are in MN)).
I didn't make a post about this, but I just want to say that it's pretty cool Obama is offically our president now!
Start of 2nd Semester and Mom Retiring
I started my new semester yesterday and it is busy! I'm teaching four classes and it's basically one after another. The first couple days are always a frenzy because your adjusting to a completely new schedule, new group of students with different skills, new content, and what not. The classes sizes are nice though and I don't have one that's over 20 students which is great! I do miss my students from last semester but some are popping into my room every now again to come talk to me and say they miss being in my class - which is always good to hear!
I haven't talked about this at all but Mom is retiring this Friday from Wells Fargo. She had her retirement party today at work. I wish I was able to go but I had to teach. Apparently lots of her customers, former workers, and friends came in and visited and she ended up getting a good amount gifts. Her name with a picture was also in the paper this last week, which was pretty cool! She was great at her job and Wells Fargo will greatly miss her. It's not too often you see someone work 34 years for one company. I believe this Friday she might have a happy hour, which btw Andy if you are in town we should go!
I haven't posted in a while and realized I need to.
To start with, it's -20 with a -40 wind chill and I'm eating ice cream. I am a true Minnesotan at heart.
Teaching has been going really well. I'm about half way through my contract and am finishing up this first semester. It's sad because I really like my students in my classes now - but I'm sure I'll get another good bunch to start next semester. I haven't decided whether the next semester is going to be easier or harder. Right now I'm teaching 2 1/2 classes with a prep. Next semester I'm teaching 3 1/2 classes with my only break coming during the the 2nd part of Work Experience. The classes I'm teaching will be Computer Applications I and II, Career Exploration, and Work Experience. I'm not sure how hard the Computer Applications classes will be to teach, but we'll see. I know it'll be nothing I can't handle though.
On a different topic, I searched EdPost today (which shows educational openings in Minnesota) and I found a Long-Term Subsititute for 8th grade Social Studies in Princeton, MN. The position begins around March 28th and goes till the end of the school year. It fits in perfectly because teaching at Dover-Eyota will end at the beginning or middle of March. So I'm heavily thinking about applying for it. It'd be much better than random subbing and working at Dick's. Obviously this is all speculation and I'm sure 100 other applicants have already applied for it. But as an applicant myself, it will be really nice to have a step up on the others with my current experience at Dover-Eyota. The teachers at D-E are saying it's going to look really good having this under my belt - especially since I'm teaching in an area that I'm not license in.
On a whole different topic, Bridget and I are planning on dating when she gets back from Norway in June. I realized how much I wanted to be with her and how much she means to me after she has been gone. It's tough not seeing her - it sounds cheesy but there are days where my stomach aches because I miss her so much. When she moves back, she will be my date to Adam and Jaime's wedding and I'm making a trip or two to Chippewa Falls to meet her parents. So we will see what happens. Obviously I cannot fully expect it to work perfectly when she gets back, or if it's going to happen at all, but I really hope it does!
Lastly, I bought Fall Out Boy's "Folie à Deux", Kanye West's "808s & Heartbreaks", and Copeland's "You Are My Sunshine". I really like Fall Out Boy's and Mr. West's CDs but I'm still having a little trouble with Copeland's. It sounds A LOT like "Eat, Sleep, Repeat" which I wasn't a huge fan of. I'll keep playing it though - we'll see if it grows on me.
